Weatherproof Your Skincare for a Hot & Humid Climate

by Liane T on July 29, 2020

What is water-based hydration?

Water-based products are comprised of mainly water and humectant ingredients or 'moisture magnets' that attract and lock water molecules in the skin. This helps achieve internal hydration that nourishes and plumps the skin from within, as opposed to only delivering moisturise to the surface. Compared to their oil-based counterparts, water-based formulas are typically lighter in texture, more concentrated, and absorb faster into the skin. Mostly, water-based formulas are well-loved as they are lightweight, deeply hydrating, and compatible with most skin types.

Hydration for a hot and humid climate.

When exposed to humidity, the skin adapts to balance and protect itself from the environment, which could trigger an overproduction of oil. Accompanied by increased sweating in the heat, oily and sticky skin becomes an optimal environment for bacteria growth that may lead to acne and congestion. Therefore, hot and humid weather warrants swapping out heavier products for formulas that feel cool and light on the skin. Opt for water based formulas like essence, serum and gel formulas over rich creams and lotions as they let your skin breathe while keeping it well hydrated and refreshed.

Our hydration heroes

While our formulas are jam-packed with numerous hydrating ingredients, we're putting the spotlight on these four multi-benefit hydration heroes:

Pine leaf  Pine leaf extract is hailed for its natural healing properties, being rich in antioxidants, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. When applied, it effectively cools the skin and soothes irritation, as well as nourishes the skin to improve the skin's resilience and protect from heat and UV damage.
Hyaluronic acid Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant or 'moisture magnet' that attracts and locks water molecules in the skin. It occurs naturally in the skin, and can hold up to a thousand times its weight in water. However, as hyaluronic acid production decreases with age, it is important to incorporate topical application in our skincare routines.
Probiotics Probiotics are incredibly effective at boosting the skin's natural defences and strengthening the skin's barrier to prevent moisture loss. It also helps calm and balance the skin, to soothe and reduce acne and irritation.
Mush glucan Mush glucan is a lesser-known ingredient that is quickly gaining praise for its impressive hydrating and immunity boosting qualities. Derived from mushrooms, mush glucan is a humectant that provides deep and lightweight hydration, and stimulates immune responses to fend off bacteria and stengthen the skin barrier.
