What is Thermal Aging and how do you prevent it? (Part 2)

by Liane T on June 18, 2021

Welcome back to another Thermal Aging series! This time, let's get more in-depth with solution tips.

First of all, here's a recap of what Thermal aging is.

Thermal aging is premature skin damage caused by heat and UV rays where exposure to high temperatures, even for brief periods of time, can cause structural damage to the dermis and accelerate skin aging.

So, how do you prevent yourself from the damages?

To prevent thermal aging and maintain a healthy complexion, protect your skin by consistently applying and reapplying suncream, and also replenish your skin after sun exposure with a holistic skincare routine.

Before a sunny day out...

1. Hydrate your skin thoroughly by layering water-based hydrating products under your suncream.

2. For dry skin, apply an additional moisture barrier like a light-weight moisturizer before applying suncream.

3. Cool down your skin on the go with a facial mist and opt for one with natural and skin soothing ingredients like aloe vera & centella etc.

4. For prolonged periods of sun exposure, reapply a physical suncream every 2 hours.

After a sunny day out...

1. Refresh your skin by generously applying water-based hydrators using patting and fanning hand-motions, before applying oli-based moisturizer to seal in the hydration.

2. Follow up with a vitamin-rich sheet mask to soothe and rejuvenate the skin.

3. Finally, warm your moisturizer or night cream between your palms and gently massage it into your skin for better absorption to boost skin recovery.

Enjoy your outdoor moments worry-free and keep thermal aging at bay when you care for your skin with a holistic routine!
